On September 20, 2012, the RCMP Auto Theft Unit, with the assistance of the RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Oakbank RCMP Detachment executed a search warrant at a rural property in the RM of Springfield. During the search, a variety of stolen property was located, including snowmobiles, trailers, industrial generators and cement mixers.
This search was the result of an investigation that began in October of 2011 regarding the theft of construction equipment from the greater Winnipeg Area.
On October 18, 2012, as part of the ongoing investigation, the RCMP Auto Theft Unit, with the assistance of the RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Winnipeg Police Service Auto Theft Unit attended a property in the 400 block of Hartford Street in Winnipeg. A stolen industrial lift and two stolen trailers were recovered at this property.
A 48-year-old man from Winnipeg, Colin Joel Busko, was arrested at the location. He has been charged with 17 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and one count of failing to comply with a recognizance. He has since been released from police custody, and is scheduled to appear in Provincial court on November 21, 2012.
The value of the recovered property is estimated at close to $123,000.
