Yvette Reimer from Grunthal has a smile as wide as the sky after winning a $1 million MAXMILLIONS prize on the October 19th LOTTO MAX draws.
Reimer picked up a LOTTO MAX ticket on the day of the draw at the Oaklane Grocery and Petro Can at 222 Main Street in her hometown of Grunthal. Yvette knew there was a Jackpot of $50 million along with 26 MAXMILLIONS prizes to be drawn that evening.
The next day, Yvette decided to stop in at the store and check her ticket. “The girl at the counter checked my ticket and all of a sudden, it was like she was frozen,” Yvette recalled. “She said, ‘This ticket is a winner and I think it’s a big one. I have to phone my boss.’”
The clerk’s boss was there in a flash. “He said to me, ‘Yvette, you won a million bucks!’ I spoke to the lottery people who were on the phone and then I went home. As soon as I left the store I started to cry, so when I got home to tell my husband I had tears on my face and told him to sit down. Right away he said, ‘What’s wrong? Who died?’” Yvette laughed.
Once she’d convinced him that her tears were certainly not because of some tragedy, Yvette had a harder time convincing him that they were now millionaires. “But within two hours, all the neighbours knew! Our phone didn’t stop ringing! Word gets around in a small town,” Yvette said, with a smile.
Yvette and her husband want to take some time and be sure they use their windfall wisely. “We want to really figure it out and let this excitement settle,” she said, adding that they have engaged a financial advisor.
But in the meantime, Yvette laughed, “The feeling is fantastic!”
