On January 30, 2009, the RCMP Thompson Detachment was notified by the Child Protection Centre of a 17-month-old child, who had been medevaced from Thompson to Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg. The young girl had sustained severe third degree burns to 40 percent of her body during the evening hours of January 29, 2009 in Thompson, Manitoba.
An investigation followed, Thompson RCMP Detachment with the assistance of the Winnipeg RCMP Serious Crime Unit, Thompson RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Thompson RCMP Forensic Identification Section resulted in the arrest of her father, Darryl Nathan Muskego (27 yrs) of Thompson, on April 7th while he was in Winnipeg.
Darryl Nathan Muskego has been charged with aggravated assault after it was determined that his daughter’s injuries were the result of being forcibly submerged in a hot body of water.
He made his first court appearance in Winnipeg on April 8th and has since been released from custody by the Court and remanded to Thompson Provincial Court on April 20, 2009.
The child’s name will not be made public. She has since been released from Children’s Hospital but still requires ongoing care.
