On Thursday the 9th of April, 2009 at 5:00 P.M., Amaranth RCMP were dispatched to the Westroc Colony in the RM of Westbourne for a possible drowning.

Investigation revealed an  8-year-old boy, along with friends, had been playing near the opening of a culvert and was pulled under water and into the culvert by the force of the flowing water. The boy was life-flighted to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg and remains in critical condition at this time.

The Westroc Colony is located approximately 35 kilometres north-west of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba .

RCMP would like to remind the public to stay off ice covered lakes, ponds, rivers, flooded areas and any areas where water is being diverted by way of culverts and drainage ditches.
