On December 5, 2012, at 11:30am, Blue Hills area RCMP were dispatched to Road 75 W and Highway 1, where it was reported that an injured cow was laying on the highway.

Investigation determined that the cow had fallen out of the back of a westbound farm trailer that was hauling several cattle from a farm near Pilot Mound to a livestock yard near Brandon.

RCMP report that the cow that was located on the highway was seriously injured and had to be put down by police. Another cow that had fallen out of the trailer in the same location was corralled and taken to a local livestock yard. Three additional cattle were determined to have also fallen out of the trailer and are still missing.

The owner of the cattle and driver of the trailer, a 52-year-old man from the RM of St. Louise, has been fined $295 under the Highway Traffic Act for transporting livestock in manner that would cause injury or unnecessary suffering.

Police say that no vehicles collided with any of the cows and there were no injuries or damages caused to passing motorists.
