On December 6, 2012, Steinbach RCMP received a complaint regarding suspicious, fraudulent phone calls to a residence.

RCMP learned that the suspicious caller identified himself as “David Brown” and informed the residents that they had won 2.5 million dollars and new car. They were told that they had won the prizes based on being a customer with Wal-Mart and that their phone number was selected as the winner of the grand prize. The caller advised that they would arrange to deliver the money and prizes after the person forwarded $350 to an address in Montego Bay, Jamaica, via Western Union wire transfer.

Police investigation revealed this phone call to be a fraudulent phone scam and police are advising residents to be cognizant of same occurring over the festive season. Police are also advising the public not to send funds of any sort to any unknown business.
