Steinbach Credit Union today unveiled the plans for its new branch and corporate head office in Steinbach, Manitoba. The new six-storey building will be located along Main Street on the property between Steinbach Place and Lumber Avenue.
In making the announcement Ted Falk, President of the Board of Directors stated, “We have spent considerable time with our architects looking at up to 8 different options to solve out our need for a new branch and new corporate office space. This decision to amalgamate our branch and six corporate satellite offices into one building is the best decision for the 38,600 members who call this branch home, for our 290 Steinbach-based staff, and ultimately for the City of Steinbach.”
The six-storey 95,000 square foot building will be more than double the size of SCU’s Lagimodiere Branch, and like the Lagimodiere Branch it will respect the environment and be energy efficient. The building will feature geothermal heating and cooling. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, and should take 18 to 20 months to complete.
“We’re delighted to remain in the heart of Steinbach,” said Falk. “And with an average of 1,000 members travelling through our doors on any given day, we believe this lends continued vitality to the downtown of our vibrant and growing city.”
Steinbach Credit Union began operations in 1941 with 95 members and under $1,000 in member assets. Today, they remain Manitoba’s largest credit union with over 82,000 members and over $3.9 Billion in member assets.
