From December 10 to December 16, 2012, the RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program has resulted in numerous charges.
Week two of the RCMP Christmas Checkstop Program has resulted in the following:
• 4380 vehicles were checked across Manitoba during 84 Checkstops
• 24 people were charged with either Impaired Driving or Drive Over .08
• The average blood/alcohol reading was 170 mgs% (0.170) – just over twice the legal limit
• The highest blood/alcohol reading was 340 mgs% (0.340) – over four times the legal limit – the man was found after he crashed a snowmobile in Lynn Lake.
• An additional three people were charged with Refusal
Other Stats from Week two of the 2012/2013 program include:
• 10 24-hour alcohol related roadside suspensions
• 24 people charged for not wearing their seatbelts
• 471 other traffic related provincial statute (Highway Traffic Act) charges laid
• Seven other Criminal Code driving offences
• Five Drug seizures under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including a seizure of 40 grams of marijuana at a Checkstop in Lac du Bonnet
There were two traffic-related fatalities during the past week – neither crash was alcohol-related.
Last year during week two, there was one traffic-related fatality. RCMP members conducted 154 Checkstops – checking 5702 vehicles resulting in 41 people being charged with Criminal Code Impaired Driving.
