From December 17 to December 23, 2012, the RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program has resulted in numerous charges.
• 4894 vehicles were checked across Manitoba during 99 Check Stops
• 35 people were charged with either Impaired Driving or Drive Over .08
• The average blood/alcohol reading was 155 mgs% (0.155) – roughly twice the legal limit
• The highest blood/alcohol reading was 180 mgs% (0.180) – over two times the legal limit
• An additional 8 people were charged with Refusal
Other stats from week three of the 2012/2013 program include:
• Eleven (11) 24-hour alcohol related roadside suspensions
• 31 people charged for not wearing their seatbelts
• 732 other traffic related provincial statute (Highway Traffic Act) charges laid
• 12 other Criminal Code driving offences
• 5 Drug seizures under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
There was one fatal collision during the past week on Highway 10 in The RM of Kelsey, where two pick-up trucks collided head-on. One driver died, and the other driver has been charged with impaired driving causing death. Further charges are anticipated.
Last year during week three, there was one traffic-related fatality. RCMP members conducted 95 checkstops – checking 3919 vehicles resulting in 23 people being charged with criminal code impaired driving.
