On the morning of January 24, 2013, Amaranth RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on Sandy Bay First Nation, Manitoba. Portage la Prairie RCMP, Portage la Prairie Police Dog Section, Integrated Gang Intelligence Unit, RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP West District Containment Team and the National Weapon Enforcement Support Team assisted in the search.
Police say that as a result of the search, various types of ammunition and 18 long guns were seized, three of which were confirmed to have been stolen.
RCMP report that 33-year-old John Elliott Spence of Sandy Bay First Nation, was arrested and has been charged with 18 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime and four counts of possession of a weapon obtained by commission of an offence.
Charges are pending against another adult male and two adult females.
