On January 30, 2013, at approximately 2am, The Pas/Opaskwayak RCMP responded to a report of a cab driver being stabbed by unknown persons in his cab.
RCMP investigation has revealed that the cab driver picked up 4 patrons in his cab. When the driver stopped to drop off the patrons, two adult males brandishing edged weapons, attacked the driver in an attempt to rob him of his wallet. The cab driver was able disarm one of his attackers and fought back resulting in one of the accused getting stabbed.
Police have since identified and arrested both accused for aggravated assault and robbery. One accused was escorted to The Pas Health Complex to receive treatment to his injuries and was then lodged in police cells. The stabbing victim, a 54-year-old man, was air lifted to Winnipeg to receive further treatment to his injuries which are deemed to be non life threatening.
One adult female was interviewed and released by investigators. Police are currently looking for a second female who was believed to be a witness in this matter.
RCMP report that the accused, a 19-year-old and a 23-year-old Opaskwayak Manitoba resident, are facing charges of aggravated assault and robbery.
