Earlier this week, City of Steinbach mayor Chris Goertzen was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
An addition was made to the agenda under “Other Business” at this past Tuesday’s City of Steinbach Council Meeting. The new item was presentation of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to Mayor Chris Goertzen.
Councillor Michael Zwaagstra presented the award on behalf of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, reading from the accompanying letter, “For your exemplary efforts to make your community a great place to live. It recognizes the important role municipalities – and their elected leaders – play in ensuring our prosperity and high quality of life.”
Medal recipients, 60,000 across Canada, are being recognized for significant contributions and achievements. The commemorative medal was created to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Queen.
Mayor Goertzen accepted the award stating, “This award really belongs to all members of council that I’ve served, whether it’s this council or other councilors, we’ve all contributed a great deal, a great deal of time, effort and thought and I appreciate all of your sentiments and your hard work and this really reflects much of that.”
