The Steinbach Arts Council is pleased to present an opening ceremony celebration for the Steinbach Christian High School ‘Inside Out’ art gallery on February 20 at the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre.
Consisting of the grade 11 and 12 art classes of the Steinbach Christian High School, these individuals represent a diverse group of artists that bind together with excitement and energy to create and experiment in the ever-growing realm of Visual Arts.
Finding inspiration from Belgium artist, Ben Heine’s Pencil Vs Camera series, the grade 11 and grade 12 Art students of Steinbach Christian High School embarked on a creative journey. The initial challenge was to alter the ‘reality’ of a photograph with an ink drawing; creating a surreal moment that may or may not have occurred during the clicking of the camera. But the underlying challenge was to combine the hands-on tactile nature of ink drawing on paper with the distant moment caught on a camera. Some students began to dig into their past photos from family trips or special events while some decided to take new photos with the original intent to alter them. Some students decided to create parodies of the events that were captured, while others explored the idea of ‘social commentary’ and made thought-provoking remarks that are meant to challenge the viewer. In the end, all of the students made surreal events that are created to turn the photograph’s reality inside out.
The Steinbach Arts Council invites you to join them on February 20, 2013, from 7-8pm, at the Hall Gallery in the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre, to celebrate the accomplishment of this group of students. Everyone is invited to attend the opening ceremony. Refreshments will be served. No Admission, but a Toonie Donation is requested and greatly appreciated.
