On February 13, 2013, just after 11pm, Swan River RCMP and Fire Department, along with the Minitonas Fire Department, were dispatched to a fire inside of Chen’s Restaurant in Swan River, Manitoba.
Police say that a passerby had heard what sounded like a fire alarm. The person then approached the building, saw the fire and immediately called 911. Subsequently, a neighbouring apartment block was evacuated. Flames were seen climbing up the wall from an electrical wall heating unit.
RCMP report that in combating the fire, portions of the wall were removed in order to save the building. Smoke and water damage is said to be extensive.
The fire currently appears as non-suspicious. The police investigation, in consultation with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, continues.
