RCMP units in southern Manitoba have been kept busy responding to several multiple vehicle collisions due to poor visibility and road conditions.
Headingley RCMP and Traffic Services responded to several collisions involving multiple vehicles at St. Francois Xavier this morning. About 10 vehicles including several semi trailers collided in a chain reaction due to poor visibility. No serious injuries have been reported.
Three other semis were also involved in a similar type of collision just west of PR 332 in the westbound lanes on Highway 1.
RCMP report that at about 10am this morning, two semis hit the road closure barricades at the Headingley weight scales despite a marked police vehicle with lights on at the location near the gate. Flying debris caused damage to the police vehicle, fortunately, the officers were not hurt in the incident.
RCMP have also received numerous reports of vehicles in ditches across southern Manitoba. Poor driving conditions due to snow covered, ice covered, high winds, drifting snow and zero visibility continue to be a concern.
Police caution all drivers to reduce speed and use extreme caution if you must drive. The public are also asked to be cautious driving by emergency personnel and tow truck operators who are responding to assist various collision scenes.
