Two men were arrested and are facing assault related charges in connection to a number of recent assault incidents involving children.
On January 16, 2013, Spruce Plains RCMP and the RCMP Major Crimes Services began an investigation in relation to a number of assaults against children. The assaults were alleged to have occurred at a community near Gladstone, in the RM of Westbourne.
On March 12, 2013, a 54-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with seven counts of assault and seven counts of assault with a weapon. He has since been released from custody and will be scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
A second male, age 29, was also arrested. He has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm, eight counts of assault, and five counts of assault with a weapon. He has been released from custody and will be scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
RCMP report that the assaults were alleged to have occurred between July 1, 2011 and January 31, 2013.
Police have been working in conjunction with Child and Family Services of Central Manitoba and continue to investigate.
