On March 24, 2013, at 12:30am Portage la Prairie RCMP and local EMS responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a train at the intersection of Fisher Avenue and 8th Street NW in Portage la Prairie.
RCMP report that Officers and EMS arrived at the scene and found a 29-year-old Portage woman near the railroad tracks. She was transported to Portage General Hospital and transferred to a Winnipeg Hospital where she was last reported in critical but stable condition.
Early indications are that the victim was walking in very close proximity of the eastbound slow moving cargo train when the incident occurred.
