The Manitoba Parks Reservation Service will begin taking campsite reservations on Monday, April 1. This announcement was made by Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh.

“Every year we work to improve the efficiency of our parks reservation system including having earlier opening day hours than in previous years and making the online process more user friendly,” said Mackintosh. “As a result, last Monday we saw more reservations on opening day for cabins and yurts than we did in two months last year.”

Online reservations for campsites will be available beginning at 7 a.m. Call centre services will also be available beginning at 7 a.m. by calling 204-948-3333 (in Winnipeg) or 1-888-482-2267 (toll-free). On all other days, the call centre will open at 9 a.m. Over the last few years, call centre hours have been adjusted to be more efficient and will be in operation during peak demand periods.

Walk-in reservations and in-person payment arrangements have moved to 200 Saulteaux Cres. in Winnipeg and will be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. including April 1.

Manitoba parks saw five million visits in 2012 and a record 75 per cent of the 214,000 camping spot reservations were made online. An update on this year’s campsite reservations numbers will be provided next Monday.

The minister recently launched Building the Parks Province: Manitoba’s Parks Strategy, which will see more yurts, electrical campsites, play structures, Wi-Fi in campsites, better beaches, more modern washrooms and showers, and up to 10 new or expanded parks.

“This new strategy outlines how we can sustain our parks into the future, enhance the park experience and develop new services for active families while strengthening our environmental stewardship,” said Mackintosh. “I encourage all Manitobans to review the strategy and provide feedback to help us guide our investments in parks over the next eight years.”
