MP Vic Toews has announced support for the Niverville Centennial Arena under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF). The statement made by the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher, was made on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.

“I am proud to see the Niverville Centennial Arena benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,” said Minister Toews. “This investment will help create jobs and growth while promoting health and wellness in the community.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $52,950 will be used to replace the ceiling and install energy efficient lighting at the Niverville Centennial Arena. These upgrades will ensure the longevity of this facility and continue to provide community members and visitors with recreational programming.
“The Niverville Centennial Arena is used by many local residents of all ages both on the ice and in the South End multipurpose room,” said Donna Watts, Community Services Manager. “The CIIF funding will enable us to improve the overall energy efficiency of the facility, as well as enhance the facility user’s experience by providing a brighter, cleaner, safer and more welcoming atmosphere.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets.
