Steinbach MLA, Kelvin Goertzen, paid tribute in the Manitoba Legislature Monday to the Host Committee, volunteers, fans and players of the 2009 Allan Cup held in Steinbach this past week.
Goertzen noted that the tournament was met with excitement and large crowds at the Centennial Arena in Steinbach where special guests including hometown hero Ian White and Colorado Avalanche star Ryan Smyth were welcomed.
But Goertzen reserved his highest praise for those who helped organize the event and made a special note of the Host Committee Chairperson.
Speaking in the Legislature Goertzen said, “Mr. Speaker, the real stars of the week were the volunteers and the host committee who put on a first-class event and who made Steinbach, the southeast and all of Manitoba proud. Special thanks to host committee chair Randy Wolgemuth for having the dream to bring this historic tournament to Manitoba and for letting all those who attended share in a tremendous sporting experience. It was a week that all of us will long remember.”
