Just after 7pm on April 28, 2013, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report that 3 inmates had escaped from Agassiz Youth Centre in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Portage la Prairie RCMP responded with the assistance of Portage la Prairie Police Dog Section, Amaranth RCMP and Sandy Bay Dakota Bay Ojibway Police Service.
Subsequent investigation revealed that 3 inmates had climbed the fence of the facility and fled the location. Police responded and were able to apprehend one inmate in close proximity to the Centre. After further investigation, police located the two other escapees at a residence on Lorne Avenue in Portage la Prairie, both were arrested without incident.
RCMP report that all three youth have been held in custody facing charges of escaping lawful custody and being unlawfully at large. The youth are scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on April 29, 2013.
