On May 13, 2013, at approximately 2:15pm, Steinbach RCMP were dispatched to a barn fire in the RM of Hanover, south of Sarto, Manitoba.

Fire crews from Kleefeld and Grunthal were on scene but were unable to save the building or the animals inside. Police say that the fire department worked against the high winds to contain the fire to the property and to keep it from spreading to neighbouring areas.

RCMP report that the barn was completely destroyed by the fire. Animals that perished in the fire was one small calf, 65 young chickens and 40 laying hens.

There were no reported injuries in the incident and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
