A joint Fundraiser for Mennonite Heritage Village and Eden Foundation
The feedback from the participants of the 2013 Tractor Trek has been very positive. Thirty-eight trekkers participated in last Saturday’s Trek and collectively raised over $29,000. These funds will be split between Mennonite Heritage Village and Eden Foundation and will go a long way in helping each organization with their operating and programming costs.
During the course of the day over 50kms were traveled around the southeastern part of Manitoba. This included a lunch stop at the La Broquerie Arena where the trekkers and the public were given a great lunch of homemade rollkuchen, sausage burgers and some homemade cookies. MHV gives a special thank you to the RM of La Broquerie for arranging the lunch as well as collecting some great prizes for the Silent Auction. As well, MHV thanks each supporting business who also gave a donation for the Silent Auction.
During the event, each trekker was encouraged to participate on the ‘balance beam’ and although it looked relatively easy, for some participants it took several tries. Some friendly competition and admiration by the public for the tractors wrapped up the afternoon break.
The afternoon stop – a local trekker’s home, completed a great afternoon with some homemade schnetje and rhubarb jam. MHV thanks Richard Kihn for opening up his yard to all of the Trekkers.
The Livery Barn Restaurant delivered an amazing evening meal that capped off the event. Some entertainment by the Rock Ridge Pickers helped everyone relax, enjoy the remainder of the evening and look back on the beautiful day, and celebrate the funds raised.
Awards were presented to our trekkers in many different categories. The People’s Choice Award went to Alvin Brandt for his own 1954 IHC Super W4 tractor and the Trekkers Choice (Bruce Reimer Award) went to Werner Rempel for his own 1949 John Deere R tractor.
MHV thanks all 2013 Tractor Trek participants and hopes to see them at next year’s event!
