New Life for Downtown Steinbach – Summer in the City set for June 19-21, 2009
The City of Steinbach and Summer in the City Festival Steering Committee are proud to announce a celebration planned for downtown Steinbach June 19th, 20th and 21st.
Taking place right on downtown Main Street, the event will include a strong musical component on the outdoor stage showcasing a variety of talented local and regional musicians, along with a wide range of other performing artists, all culminating in the Saturday night
show with the greatly anticipated multiple Juno award winning headliner.
There will also be plenty of activities for children and youth with pony rides, games, inflatable bouncers, a skateboarding competition, and much more. The Artisans and Crafters Market will showcase handmade and personally designed arts and craft items. The Visual Arts Tent will display the works of local artists along with demonstrations and public workshops for adults and children.
The Festival of Food will showcase our community’s diverse multicultural and ethnic food fare with traditional Mennonite favourites as well as others from around the globe, and of course the carnival food favourites.
Mayor Goertzen states “The Summer in the City Festival Committee has done great work in organizing this exciting event for our city. This event will be a time to celebrate our own talent as well as showcase our progressive city to the rest of Manitoba.”
The festivities are set to begin Friday afternoon on the outdoor stage with great entertainment, food, beer gardens, and much more. Other highlights include a Friday night social featuring the ever-popular band Free Ride. Saturday will include a Farmers’ Market with many great ‘made in Manitoba’ items from local producers. Sunday will include an on-stage interdenominational worship service, followed by a mini Show ‘n’ Shine car show and more.
The entire city is rolling out the welcome mat. Local merchants will be hosting Sidewalk Sale Days specials, community beautification will be out in full force, and all festival go-ers will experience why “It’s Worth the Trip to Steinbach”.
Along with the festival’s website launch, the official call is now out for festival volunteers, as well as interested artists, crafters, food, and farmers’ market vendors. Further information and application forms are available online. In the coming weeks, further information on festival events, stage schedules, and festival headliner will be released.
