On July 20, 2013, at about 1:30pm, Selkirk RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 317, just east of Libau, Manitoba.
Police investigation indicates that a Buick Allure with two occupants was traveling east on Highway 317 when it attempted to overtake and pass a slower moving vehicle. The eastbound vehicle then collided head-on with a westbound Buick Century that had a single occupant.
The driver of the eastbound Buick Allure, an 87-year-old man from the RM of St. Andrews, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger, a 91-year-old woman, also from the RM of St. Andrews, was transported to hospital with serious, undetermined injuries. RCMP report that she died in hospital overnight. The driver of the westbound Buick Century, a 69-year-old woman from Lac du Bonnet, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst is attending to assist with the ongoing investigation. Police say that there were no other persons or vehicles involved.
