An RCMP officer will be facing numerous assault charges after allegations of mishandling a prisoner were brought forward last year.
On September 7, 2012, the Flin Flon RCMP Detachment Commander immediately initiated an investigation when an allegation surfaced that a male prisoner had been mishandled by one of the detachment personnel on August 30, 2012.
Police say that once the investigation was completed, the findings were forwarded to Manitoba Justice for review by a Crown Attorney.
RCMP report that on July 22, 2013, based on recommendations from Manitoba Justice, Constable Jamie O’Brien was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. O’Brien will appear in court in Flin Flon on October 3, 2013.
Cst. O’Brien has been suspended with pay while the internal RCMP investigation process is ongoing.
