On April 28, 2009 at about 4:55 pm., Steinbach RCMP were informed that a man was just shot at by his neighbor near his residence after a brief argument in the RM of Hanover. 

Investigation revealed that a brief argument ensued between the two men which led to one of the men pointing and discharging a high-powered rifle at the other man. The man was not hit nor injured after as a result of the shooting.

The shooter’s residence was surrounded and contained by RCMP shortly after the shooting.  Communication was initiated by the RCMP which resulted in the man surrendering peacefully to police without incident. RCMP searched the shooter’s residence and subsequently seized a shotgun and a high-powered rifle. 

RCMP have arrested 44 year old David Wieler for numerous firearms offences and are currently holding him in custody as the investigation continues.       

No additional information is available at this time.  The investigation continues.

Update 050109 11:52am:

Steinbach RCMP have charged 44 year old David Wieler with numerous weapon related offences including Careless Use of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm,  and Uttering Threats To Cause Death. David Wieler was remanded in custody where he appeared in Winnipeg Provincial Court on April 30th, 2009.
