On August 5, 2013, at about 9pm, Morris RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Provincial Road 218, one mile east of PR 200 near Emerson.
RCMP members and local area Fire and EMS arrived on scene. A 16-year-old female passenger was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a Winnipeg hospital in critical condition. Police learned that the driver was traveling on PR 218 when he lost control of the vehicle and landed into the ditch.
RCMP report that the driver, identified as a 16-year-old Emerson male youth, received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. In the early hours of August 6, the 16-year-old Gretna female passenger succumbed to her injuries.
Morris RCMP continue to investigate what lead to the collision with the assistance of an RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist and the Criminal Crash Investigation Team. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this collision.
