Manitoba RCMP are reminding the public that speeding may be seen as a thrill, but its consequences can be deadly.
Speed is one of the leading factors in vehicle collisions in Manitoba. How fast a vehicle is traveling is directly related to the force of the impact and the severity of the injuries.
Excessive speed continues to be one of several factors at play in many fatal crashes. In 2012, speed was considered a contributing factor in 37 of 81 fatal crashes. That same year, speed was one of the top three factors in fatal collisions behind impairment by alcohol or drugs and lack of seatbelt use.
Every day, RCMP officers hear a plethora of reasons why people speed, but the fact is there are no excuses. Slow down and make smart decisions, your family will thank you for it.
