On August 8, 2013, shortly after 5:30pm, Morden RCMP and area EMS were dispatched to Highway 14 near Boundary Trail Hospital were a two vehicle collision had occurred.
RCMP arrived on scene and found a car and a pick-up truck with extensive damage. The vehicles had collided close to a road allowance near a local gas station.
RCMP have determined that there were three occupants in the car. The driver and one passenger, both of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, along with a 67-year-old Winkler man. Both the driver, identified as a 16-year-old male, and the one passenger, a 42-year-old male passenger, father to the driver, were pronounced deceased at the scene. the Winkler man, grandfather to the driver, was transported to a Winnipeg Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The driver of the pick-up truck, identified as a 21-year-old Morden woman, was also transported to hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Early indications are that the car, driven by the 16-year-old male, slowed down to turn south on the road allowance when it was rear-ended by the westbound pick-up truck.
An RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation. Police say that alcohol is not considered a factor in this incident.
