MTS, Manitoba’s leading telecommunications provider, announced today that it has completed its 4G LTE wireless network expansion to Steinbach, the fifth of six Manitoban communities where the MTS 4G LTE Wireless service will launch in 2013. Residents can now experience faster-than-ever wireless download and upload speeds on the latest LTE-enabled wireless devices.
“MTS is significantly expanding its 4G LTE wireless footprint in 2013,” said MTS President Kelvin Shepherd. “The launch of this technology in Manitoba’s third-largest city is part of our commitment to support the latest wireless devices and deliver lightning-fast access to the Internet to more Manitobans in more places across the province.”
Long Term Evolution (LTE) is recognized as the gold standard in wireless technologies and provides superior performance while surfing the Internet, downloading content, and streaming videos and music. MTS’s 4G LTE Wireless Network supports average user speeds that are up to ten times faster than MTS’s 4G HSPA+ Wireless Network. MTS customers can experience the full speed capabilities LTE offers on some of the latest LTE-enabled devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S4(TM), BlackBerry(R) Q10, and Sony Xperia(TM) ZL.
MTS was the first to bring 4G LTE technology to Winnipeg and Brandon in 2012. MTS has since doubled its 4G LTE wireless network speeds, now supporting unbeatable peak speeds of up to 150 Mbps. MTS has launched 4G LTE wireless service in Victoria Beach, Grand Beach, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk and now Steinbach, and will bring the service to Ste. Anne later this year. Customers using LTE-enabled devices outside of MTS’s 4G LTE Wireless Network coverage area will transfer to MTS’s 4G HSPA+ Wireless Network, which covers 97 per cent of the Manitoba population.
The expansion of the MTS 4G LTE Wireless Network is part of a $40-million investment MTS is making in its rural Manitoba networks in 2013. In addition to 4G LTE wireless technology, MTS is also investing this year to bring DSL-based high-speed Internet service to 20 new communities, and expanding MTS’s fibre-to-the-home technology to an additional 5,000 homes throughout the province. Since 2010, MTS has launched fibre to the home in 11 communities throughout the province, including Steinbach.
