Two men were arrested and are facing drug trafficking charges after RCMP discovered 388 pounds of marihuana hidden in a semi trailer unit.
On August 10, 2013, at 5:30pm, Headingley RCMP Traffic Services were conducting a commercial vehicle inspection at the Headingley weight scales when officers came into contact with a semi trailer unit.
During the inspection, an odour of marijuana was detected from the cab. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of marijuana and over $8,000 of cash bundled from the cab of the semi. A subsequent search of the trailer unit resulted in 388 pounds of marijuana concealed in duffle bags and boxes.
RCMP report that both occupants were arrested and identified as Qamer Shams, 40, of Newmarket, Ontario and Jeff Muster, 30, of Surrey, BC. They have both been charged individually with possession for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking under the Controlled Drug Substances Act, as well as possession of proceeds of crime.
