On August 31, 2013, just after 2pm, Gimli RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a cottage fire on Willow Island in the RM of Gimli.

Police say that the fire is not considered suspicious in nature and has been attributed to a leak from a BBQ propane tank.

There were no injuries as a result of the initial fire, the second burned cottage was unoccupied at the time. Damage estimates are not available, however, both cottages have been destroyed by the fire.
