September has arrived and schools are back in session. With this, there will be an increased number of pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic, especially around the schools.
Whether students are walking, cycling or catching the school bus parents/care givers should ensure both you and your child(ren) are familiar with the route they will be taking to school. Consider making the trip with them until you and they are comfortable that they can do it on their own.
If driving your child(ren) to and from school, remember to familiarize yourself with and follow the designated drop off and pick up zones at each school.
RCMP are reminding motorists to be aware of the increased traffic and to adjust their driving habits accordingly. Remember to slow down in school zones, watch for and be courteous of other people using the roadways and remember to watch for and stop for school buses.
With students heading back to school motorists should keep in mind to watch for crossing guards, pedestrian cross walks, pedestrians, cyclists and students getting on and off school buses.
Police are also reminding pedestrians and cyclists to do their part and also be aware of their surroundings and be safe on the roadways.
