A Pauingassi First Nation woman is facing numerous charges after assaulting a Little Grand Rapids RCMP officer this past week.
On August 30, 2013, at 3:45pm, two RCMP officers stationed in Little Grand Rapids were on patrol in Pauingassi First Nation when, during the course of conducting inquiries on an ongoing investigation, they came into contact with a woman while in a residence.
The woman, identified as 24-year-old Cynthia Jan Keeper of Pauingassi FN, became very hostile and aggressive towards the Officers. Police say that at one point, she charged at one the officers with a knife while making threats. Both officers were able to swiftly get out of the residence.
Police say that the woman armed herself with a firearm, knife and barricaded herself in her residence. About two hours later, RCMP were able to defuse the situation and apprehend her without further incident. RCMP members involved were not injured in the incident.
Keeper has charged with 18 various criminal charges including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, public mischief, identity fraud, obstruction and possession of weapons contrary to a court order.
Cynthia Jan Keeper was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 3, 2013 in Winnipeg.
