On September 23, 2013, Steinbach RCMP attempted to stop a Camaro on Highway 12 near the Ste. Anne overpass. The vehicle accelerated and due to public safety, police stopped pursuing the vehicle. Police later located the vehicle in the Aspen Grove trailer park where the driver refused to exit the vehicle and force had to be used to take the male into custody.
Police investigation later revealed that the driver did not have a license and had several air soft hand guns painted to resemble real firearms. Police also located a large quantity of what is believed to be stolen cell phones, a large quantity of cash, as well as car stereo equipment and a small quantity of marijuana.
Steinbach RCMP later received a call from the girlfriend of the suspect male who was concerned for his safety. The girlfriend was later found in a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Brookdale mall where she was taken into custody.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
