Between October 7-8, 2013, the RCMP D Division Action Response Team (DART) was deployed in the RCMP West District, where multiple officers executed outstanding warrants.

During the two-day targeted effort, the Central Plains RCMP Detachment Crime Reduction Unit and Sandy Bay Dakota Ojobway Police Service, with the assistance of the Manitoba Integrated Warrant Apprehension Unit and the Manitoba Integrated Gang Intelligence Unit – both comprised of members of the RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service – executed warrants in Portage la Prairie and Sandy Bay First Nation.

“This truly was a joint effort,” says Inspector Ron Russell, Officer in Charge of the Central Plains RCMP Detachment. “The two-day blitz really paid off.”

More than 50 warrants were prepared, and 18 arrests were made. There were 37 existing charges on warrants and 6 new charges stemming from the delivery of the warrants. The total charges include Assault Peace Officer, Assault, Failure to Appear in Court, Impaired Operation of Motor Vehicle, Uttering Threats, Arson and Possession of a Controlled Substance, among others.

“The arrest of individuals with outstanding warrants is a significant part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime in the Central Plains area,” explains Russell. “Our officers will continue to actively pursue individuals with outstanding warrants.”

While taking part in this initiative, officers pursued an investigation that led to a seizure of cocaine, marihuana, anabolic steroids and more than $6000 cash. Two adult males are facing charges in relation to the seizures. The investigation is ongoing.

The “D” Division Action Response Team (DART) is a crime-reduction strategy that involves leveraging RCMP resources to address specific emerging public safety issues. The RCMP is committed to preserving the peace and creating a safe environment for our communities.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of individuals with outstanding warrants is asked to contact the local police detachment or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
