Leaf Rapids RCMP are asking for any information connected to numerous incidents occurring over the last six months that involve a suspicious person offering rides to young girls.
On October 12, 2013, at about 9:30am, Leaf Rapids RCMP were notified that the evening prior at about 8:30pm, a nine-year-old girl was walking home from a friend’s house in Leaf Rapids when an unknown male in a pick-up truck approached her and offered her a ride home. When she refused, he grabbed her arm and told her to get in the truck. She was able to break free from his grasp, and ran home safely.
The individual is described as wearing a black leather jacket, short hair and has no facial hair. The vehicle is described as a dark 4-door pick-up truck.
RCMP are concerned that this is the third time over the last six months where young girls between the ages of 7 and 11-years-old were reported being approached with offers for a ride home.
Police are urging parents to call the RCMP right away if anything suspect is brought to their attention. Kids are encouraged to always walk with a buddy and stay away from secluded areas.
Anyone with information on this matter is urged to contact the Leaf Rapids RCMP at 204-473-2944. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS), submit a tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text TIPMAN plus your message to Crimes(274637).
