Today Prime Minister Stephen Harper called the by-election date for Provencher, and Conservative candidate, Ted Falk, welcomed the announcement. Falk, a business owner and president of the Steinbach Credit Union, said he looked forward to reaching out to residents of Provencher and continuing to present his plan for jobs and economic growth for the area.

“Our Conservative government has led us through tough global economic times, and the results are clear. We continue to lead the G7 on job creation and on the strength of our balance sheet,” said Falk. “This by-election is about continuing the strong record of jobs and growth in Provencher. It’s about keeping taxes low and keeping our streets and communities safe. On November 25th I ask for residents of Provencher to elect an MP that represents you, and understands the needs of our area.”

Falk pointed to the recent Speech from the Throne and its pledge to balance the budget by 2015. The government also plans to introduce balanced budget legislation that will require all future governments to balance the annual budget in normal economic times. When unforeseen emergencies arise, the government will still need to present a plan to bring its budget back into balance within a clearly defined time frame.

“The Conservative government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and sound economic management resonates with the people of Provencher,” explained Falk. “In contrast with the other parties, the Conservative party recognizes that the private sector is the primary driver of economic growth. That is why our party is the only party that places a high priority on reducing the tax burden on businesses and families.”

Falk added that he plans to run a very active campaign and will visit as many homes as possible over the next month.

“I’m very pleased at how many people have stepped forward and offered to help out with my campaign. The enthusiasm of our volunteers is a clear sign that support for the Conservative party remains strong in Provencher,” said Falk.
