On October 15, 2013, RCMP D Division Action Response Team (DART) completed a three day deployment in Norway House. DART is a crime reduction strategy that involves leveraging Police resources to address a specific emerging operational issues.
The DART project aimed at executing outstanding arrest warrants and conduct checks on prolific offenders.
The Norway House DART initiative consisted of 14 officers from across the province deployed from their regular duties to assist Norway House Detachment members. These officers were selected because of their background and experience in their current duties. The Officers whom attended consisted of members of the Manitoba Integrated Warrant Apprehension Unit which is comprised of three Members of the RCMP and three Members of Winnipeg Police Service. In addition, assistance was provided by two members of the North District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team, two members of the Criminal Intelligence Section, as well as current and former Norway House Detachment Members.
The DART results were as follows:
- Twenty-four warrants for arrest were executed out of a possible 39. From those 24 warrants, 12 persons were remanded into custody.
- Stemming from a warrant for arrest, one person was re-registered on the National Sex Offender Registry.
- Curfew checks were conducted on prolific offenders. Two persons were found breaching their conditions. One was remanded into custody and the other was released on a Recognizance.
- Another person was arrested and charged for failing to comply with the conditions of an Undertaking.
- A Winnipeg Police Service Identification warrant was executed.
Police conducted a checkstop in two separate locations of the community and issued four common offence notices for Highway Traffic Act offences. One vehicle was towed. Police checked approximately 50 vehicles.
Overall Police presence in the community diminished the volume of calls for service in the Community of Norway House.
This is the second DART deployment to Norway House. The initial deployment was conducted January 31 to February 2, 2013.
