Steinbach City Council has announced that Troy Warkentin will be taking over the role of City Manager when Jack Kehler, current City manager, retires at the end of January.
“Council believes that promotion of a proven performer from within the organization is in the best interest of the organization and the community it serves,” said Mayor Chris Goertzen.
Warkentin started as Controller with the City in June 1993, became Treasurer two years later and over time his role evolved into Corporate Services Manager. Last year, Council promoted Warkentin to Assistant City Manager in preparation for Kehler’s retirement and allow for a transition period. In addition to 20 years of City experience, Warkentin is a Certified Management Accountant and holds a certificate in Manitoba Municipal Administration.
“The City of Steinbach has been very successful under the management of Jack Kehler and we look forward to continuing that success under the direction of Troy Warkentin,” Goertzen stated, “He has demonstrated a strong commitment to good management practices and strong leadership qualities that will serve the city well in the coming years.”
Warkentin will officially assume the new role on February 1, 2014 when Kehler retires after more than 37 years with the City.
