The RCMP believe that education and awareness are key to helping youth, parents, teachers and police prevent and reduce incidences of bullying. The Manitoba RCMP came up with a way to get students involved in learning about bullying by challenging young artists to create a poster for the Bullying Awareness Week theme “Stand up to bullying.” Grade 7 students across the province rose to the challenge, sending in more than 100 entries.
After careful scrutiny, Assistant Commissioner Kevin Brosseau, Commanding Officer of RCMP “D” Division; Chief Superintendent Scott Kolody, Officer in Charge of Criminal Operations; and Glen Lewis, Department of Justice, Province of Manitoba chose the winning entries.
- The winners came from all three of the RCMP districts:
- Amber Heroux, Dauphin (West District)
- Lynea Robinson, Grand Rapids (North District)
- Amerlyn Budd, Stonewall (East District)
The winner from each district will receive backpacks for their entire class and a trip to Winnipeg to have lunch with the RCMP Commanding Officer and Criminal Operations Officer.
We all have a role to play in ensuring safe environments in which children and youth can learn and play. Congratulations to the winners of this year’s bullying awareness poster contest and thank you for helping get the message out there that bullying is not okay.
