A swine specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development says over the past five years the use of the internet and social media within the swine industry to access information has accelerated.
Hog Days Brandon 2013 is scheduled to kick off tomorrow afternoon with an exhibitors reception and the show will run all day Thursday.
Ron Bazylo, a swine specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and a member of the Brandon Hog Days Organizing Committee, notes among the highlights will be the presentation, “iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android, Twitter and Facebook: How can you make it work for you” scheduled for Thursday morning.
That presentation starts at 11:15 am sharp and it runs only till 11:45 so it’s only a 30 minute presentation and it’s going to cover Facebook, Twitter, the use of iPhones, iPads, the use of the internet and how you can best utilize these different social medias for your operation.
Five years ago the use was quite limited in a lot of the operations but over the past five years there’s been tremendous strides and most of the operations are getting market prices, different questions answered, etcetera, up to the minute information from social media.
There’s been a lot of questions on how to use some of these things, what is the best for each individual, whether it be an iPhone or an iPad or iPod and it’s just going to make producers aware of the different alternatives and how they can use them.
Bazylo encourages pork producers to take in the presentation to learn more about the latest technology and the value of using these different types of media.
