A Steinbach youth has died after his snowmobile collided with several trees near Provincial Road 210 on Fireguard 18.
On December 14, 2013, shortly after 7pm, Steinbach RCMP, along with local Fire and EMS, were dispatched to a report of snowmobile collision on Fireguard 18, approximately 1.5km from Provincial Road 210.
Initial investigation indicates that a 16-year-old youth from Steinbach was in a group five, traveling on Fireguard 18. The youth lost control of his snowmobile on a corner and collided with several trees.
Police say that the Steinbach youth was transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
RCMP report that the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and that alcohol is not considered to be a factor in this incident.
The investigation is ongoing, speed and lighting conditions are believed to be contributing factors.
