Week three of the RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program, from December 16 to December 22, 2013, has resulted in numerous charges.

  • 2542 vehicles were checked across Manitoba during 91 Checkstops
  • 32 people were charged with either impaired driving by alcohol or driving over .08
  • The average blood/alcohol reading was 154 mgs% (0.154) – roughly twice the legal limit
  • The highest blood/alcohol reading was 250 mgs% (0.250) – over three times the legal limit.  Three of the impaired drivers charged registered a blood/alcohol reading of 250 mgs%.
  • An additional 3 people were charged with refusal

Other numbers from week one of the 2013/2014 program include:

  • 11 alcohol-related roadside suspensions
  • 10 people charged for not wearing their seatbelts
  • 305 other traffic-related provincial statute (Highway Traffic Act) charges laid
  • 6 other Criminal Code driving offences
  • 9 charges under the Liquor Control Act
  • Approximately 25 written warnings and several small seizures under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

There was one fatal collision in the RM of St Andrews during the past week, where a southbound vehicle lost control and slid into an oncoming northbound vehicle on Highway 9.

Last year during week three, there was one traffic-related fatality. RCMP members conducted 99 checkstops – checking 4894 vehicles resulting in 35 people being charged with Criminal Code impaired driving.
