On December 27, 2013, shortly after 1:30am, Shoal Lake RCMP was dispatched to the scene of a house fire in Hamiota. Fire trucks from Shoal Lake and Hamiota responded to the fire.
When police arrived at the residence, the fire which started in the garage had spread through to the attic. A family of five who were at home at the time, were able to escape safely without injury.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner was notified. The cause of the fire is reported to be an accidental fire due to electrical failure. The value of the damages is not known at this time.
