Professional race car driver (and Niverville native), David Richert, has taken a creative approach in raising the funds necessary to take the final steps towards competing in world class racing championships like Formula 1 and Indy car. In a sport where dollars usually trump driving ability, David has developed a unique business plan for Richert Racing which allows the offering of shares in his racing career. Prominent business leaders, including Michael Silver, Hartley Richardson, Don Streuber and Paul Thiessen, are among the first few who have already signed on as investors.
“I like to invest in good people and I am impressed with the plan that David has put together. It’s a unique business concept so I am excited to be an investor and help to give David the opportunity of making this venture a success.” ~ Hartley Richardson
With so much initial support, Richert Racing is already over halfway towards it’s goal of raising $500,000 in capital. The investment capital raised is being combined with corporate partnership dollars and will be used to jump-start David’s final push into the highest levels of racing.
“It’s a humbling experience to have so many successful business leaders give you a chance to succeed, but at the same time, it’s a massive responsibility to be entrusted with the hard earned dollars of other people. However, I am confident in the revenue projections put forward and that if we continue to work hard, there is no reason we can’t provide a positive return on everyone’s investment while accomplishing something extremely special in the world of auto racing.” ~ David Richert
David grew up on a farm just outside the town of Niverville, Manitoba, and after spending many years gathering eggs in the chicken barn, made the decision he wanted to become a race car driver. Being too old, too tall, and being from part of the world which is not supposed to produce race car drivers, helped to stack the odds against him. But after proving initial talent on the race track, David was selected by Volkswagen as one of the top young race car drivers in North America which eventually lead to racing opportunities in Europe where he most recently competed with a team based in Italy.
“After meeting with David I was intrigued with his story and with what he has already accomplished. I think there is something special going on here, so I wanted to be part of seeing his dream develop into reality.” ~ Don Streuber
Auto racing is a sport unlike many others such as hockey, football, or baseball, where if you have talent as an athlete, you will have a chance to advance your career. In auto racing, you could be one of the fastest drivers in the world, but if you do not have the financial ability to pay the hundreds of thousands and up to millions of dollars necessary to move into higher levels, you go absolutely nowhere.
“I recognized early in my career that when it comes to advancing through the racing ranks, driving ability was secondary to financial ability, so at that point I could either go home to cry and complain that life was unfair and that I didn’t have the money to make this work, or I could go out, pull up my socks, and try to do something about it.” ~ David Richert
After completing his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree, David began building the business side of Richert Racing and raising investment capital has been the culmination to nearly a decade of work. Richert Racing will start announcing corporate partners and race plans for the 2014 race season in the weeks to come.
