On January 14, 2014 shortly after 11:30 am, Amaranth RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 50 in the RM of Alonsa.
Initial police investigation shows that an RCMP officer operating a marked police vehicle collided with a Chevrolet Equinox. The Equinox and RCMP vehicle were both travelling behind a snowplow, when the driver of the Equinox came to a sudden stop. The police vehicle rear-ended the Equinox, sending it into the ditch. The police vehicle spun around, remaining on the highway facing north in the southbound lane.
RCMP report that the 72-year-old male driver and 80-year-old female passenger of the Equinox were not injured in the collision. The RCMP officer received minor injuries.
Blowing snow and low visibility were contributing factors to the collision. An RCMP traffic analyst is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
