After a lengthy investigation, a 37-year-old RCMP member is facing theft charges connected to an incident that occurred in May of 2013.
On May 30, 2013, D Division RCMP initiated an investigation when an allegation surfaced that an off-duty RCMP member had been involved in a theft. The investigation was completed, and the findings were forwarded to Manitoba Justice in order to obtain an independent legal opinion regarding criminal charges.
RCMP report that on February 17, 2014, 37-year-old Walter Chartier of The Pas, was charged for theft under $5,000.
Cst. Walter Chartier is a regular member of the RCMP. He was served with a summons on February 18, 2014, to appear in Winnipegosis Provincial Court on March 18, 2014.
An internal disciplinary process has been initiated. Walter Chartier has been reassigned to administrative duties.
