On February 23, 2014, just before 3am, a marked RCMP vehicle, on patrol on Provincial Road 211 west of Pinawa, was sideswiped by an eastbound vehicle. The driver door window of the police vehicle shattered on impact.
When the suspect vehicle made no attempt to stop after the collision, RCMP officers engaged the vehicle and completed a traffic stop approximately one kilometre from the scene. The 45-year-old male driver of the vehicle was arrested for impaired operation and breach of conditions to abstain from alcohol.
Police say that the driver of the suspect vehicle was not injured in the collision, nor was the RCMP member riding in the passenger seat of the police vehicle. The RCMP officer driving the police vehicle was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
